Wednesday Roundup: Rapidly Increase Your Newsletter Subscribers
Email Marketing is far from Dead
If you want to be featured on a Wednesday Roundup, just send me an email and let me know the brilliant insights you have recently written!
In an online world, everyone is vying for attention. Your friends are posting cat videos hoping you’ll comment about how great their cat is. Your favorite brands are interlacing your newsfeed with their advertisements in hopes that you’ll click and buy. Google ads are prominent, and even when you get to a website you get a crappy pop-up screaming “Hey, sign up for my newsletter!” Kind of like you did when you got here (if this isn’t your first time, we don’t keep shoving it down your throat, it doesn’t pop up until you clear your cookies; you can always sign up here).
With so much noise online, brands are always looking for a way to be heard. And one of the best ways is through email newsletters. People are still selective about giving out their email, and when something comes from a brand that they trust, they’re more likely to open it and read it.
Today, let’s dive into the world of email newsletters; so you can be heard!
Why They’re a Good Idea
If my short introduction wasn’t enough to convince you that you need to engage in email marketing, then perhaps someone else’s long description will be. If you have gone through sales training, you have heard about “touches” with a client. If nothing else, your email newsletter is one more touch that keeps you in front of their mind. There are multiple ways to do this, but as long as you’re not constantly bombarding them with pushy sales (BUY NOW!), then your clients will like the touches.
Don’t take my word for it. Take Mark Walker’s word for it. Mark has put together a nice piece on how to create a brilliant newsletter that will get read. Here’s the thing though: he dives into more of the “why” it gets read and not as much the “how to make it”. That’s ok, read the why and develop your niche before doing more of the technical stuff.
How to Get Started
Now that you’ve laid the foundation, and understand what the best methods are for getting people to read and enjoy your newsletter, now it’s time to get started. But wait, you can’t just plug a bunch of emails into the “To” bar on your Gmail. That’s not going to go over so well (and it’s going to break some anti spam laws).
Instead, you need to get out a pen and paper to take notes, and see what Chris Hexton has written. From start to finish he will walk you through setting up your newsletter, gaining subscribers, what to post, and a lot more. I suppose that’s why it’s called the Ultimate Guide to Email Marketing. Because it’s in depth. Seriously, it’s a good place to start.
How to Effectively Grow your Subscribers
So you have your idea, you know what to do, and now you have started to send out emails. So far you have 3 followers! But you’re one of them. And your mom is another. And that guy from overseas that won’t stop sending you spam emails offering “deep discount web marketting services for the cheap!” is the third. Now you need to grow.
If you want to grow your newsletter subscriber list rapidly, then it’s probably a good idea to take tips from someone that has been there. That someone would be Gregory Ciotti. He has a great post simply titled 30,000 Newsletter Subscribers in 12 Months. He will walk you through how he did it, what you can do, and how you can grow your email presence as well.
